Commentary Essay

My opinion on the story of "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" is quite interesting on how the characters played out. This is one of my favorite scenes where Bilbo Baggins when him and the wizard Gandalf were inside Bilbo's home after the party . . . ' Bilbo flushed, and there was an angry light in his eyes. His kindly face grew hard. Why not?" he cried. "And what business is it of yours, anyway, to know what I do with my own things? It is my own. I found it. It came to me." "Yes, yes," said Gandalf. "But there is no need to get angry." "If I am it is your fault," said Bilbo. "it is mine, I tell you. My own. My precious. Yes, my precious." The wizard's face remained grave and attentive, and only a flicker in his deep eyes showed that he was start;ed and indeed alarmed. "It has been called  that before," said he, "but not you." "But I say it now. And why not? Even if Gollum said the same once. It's not his now, but mine. And I shall keep it, I say." ' (Tolkien 33). That happens here is Bilbo is trying to keep the Ring but Gandalf won't let him because he made a promise to give it to Frodo, his nephew. Bilbo is really a nice man but he keeps on getting possessed by the Ring. What I think of this, is reasonable, Bilbo wanting the ring but I also think that Frodo also deserves it as well since I think its going to be passed down.

A character that I liked is a character named Strider. ' "Him?" said the landlord in an answering whisper, cocking an eyes without turning his head. "I don't rightly know. He is one of the wandering folk- Rangers we call them. He seldom talks: not but what he can tell a rare tale when he has the mind. He disappears for a month, or a year, and then he pops up again. He was in and out pretty often last spring; but I haven't seen him about lately. What his right name is I've heard: but he's known round here as Strider. Goes about at a great pace on his long shanks;  thought he don't tell nobody what caused he has to hurry. But there's no accounting of East and West, as we say in Bree, meaning the Rangers and the Shire-folk, begging your pardon. Funny you should about him." (Tolkien 153). It odd that the author doesn't describe the character of Strider. When I thought of Strider, I thought he was a medium sized man, strong but good with any kind of weapon with long black hair. When I saw the movie, I was partly right but a tall man, with medium length hair. The person who plays Strider, Viggo Mortensen, a great sword fighter in the movie, great character.

Another character that I LOVE is a Mirkwood Elf named Legolas. . . ' He then pointed out and named those whom Frodo had not met before. There was a younger dwarf at Gloin's side: his son, Gimli. Beside Glorfindel there were several other counsellors of Elrond's household, of whom Erestor was the chief; and with him was Galdor, an Elf from the Grey Havens who had come on an errand from Cirdan the Shipwright. There was also a strange Elf clad in green and brown, Legolas, a messenger from his father, Thranduil, the King of the Elves of Northern Mirkwood. And seated a little apart was a tall man with a fair and noble face, dark-haired and grey-eyed, proud and stern of glance.' (Tolkien 234). How they described Legolas . . . an interesting character, nothing that I'd imagine in the movie, of these two characters. For the person who played Legolas, Orlando Bloom is an excellent fighter as well as Viggo, but Orlando does his own stunts which I think is really awesome.

The difference between the movie and the book is quite different but also the same. In the beginning when Gandalf is talking to Frodo, Gandalf tells the story of the hobbit named Sméagol, but it doesn't show that in the movie. People are still debating about the character named Legolas. People say that in the book Legolas has dark hair but the movie he has light hair. Personally in my opinion, Elves should have light colored hair like blonde or even red, orange, or orange red. For Strider, its amazing how they played him out in the movie. When they both introduced him, he seemed mysterious in both the book and the movie.

 

  

What is an American?

An American is someone that was either born in the US or migrated here, anytime (and get their citizenship). My mother (who is my great aunt) was born in St. Louis and moved to Dallas, Texas when she was young. She met some amazing people in her life, the creator of "Lays". She also met my Grandmaster when she was in college, Grand Master Chung. Now, he's my Grandmaster and he is excellent on what he does. My mother has great stories to tells, for instance, when my Uncle Edwin was here (before he died), he was a Native American. Mom told me that got sick easily and she took care of him with help of Uncle Louis. Another time was when she was in her childhood friend that she knew since she was 11. They've been friends and that bond they have is strong. That is what America should be . . .

EPT Test

The argument that Sue Jozui is stating is that we as the audience is "expected to transfer the approval of the celebrity to approval of the product. This kind of marketing is misleading and insults the intelligence of the audience . . . We should boycott this kind of advertising and legislate rules and guidelines for advertisers." What I think of the argument is true and in LA we see it everywhere- people being somewhat sexual or sexually attractive. For an example, tv commercials. Every Carl's Jr. commercial that  I see has sexually. The one that cane out over the summer last year, showed two women making hamburgers wearing clothing that showed too much cleavage. Walking near them, there was a man without a shirt staring at them. they looked like they got "love-struck" in them.

Another example is posters and billboards advertising clothing. For Bebe, there is again. a woman wearing clothing that exposes a lot od skin from the waist up. There is another billboard, a man posing against a chair either on a cruise ship or on the beach wearing Speedos underwear.

This is not right on how young women is getting exposed to things that are obviously not true but advertisers still do it, getting the male's attention. Everything that we Americans see, is always to trigger the men into being sexual or always wanting to have sex.

Another way is how women dress. now in days, teenagers are wearing short shorts and shirts that show mid drift. Men are getting the idea that they "want it" or "want to have sex" or "sexual contact". A women like me, don't wear that kind of clothing because it gives men the right idea and women the wrong idea.

Sue Jozui has the perfect idea on what he/she is talking about, and a person that thinks a lot like me . . . we have something in common.

The Mystery of Myself . .. Who am I?- Autobiography

I am a mystery to most people . . . quiet, shy, conservative person. Sherlockain. What you should know about me is I love to read and draw. I have been in band for the last five years ever since 7th grade. I lost two great band teachers but its part of life . . . been playing flute for five years and piccolo for one. Just to make this straight, its name is Pablo - the first drum Major named it. Now I am Woodwind Captain and I will do my best for band . . . I saw it fall apart TWICE but now nothing will get into my way.

Another thing you should know I do take Martial Arts . . . TDK. Do NOT I repeat DO NOT get it confused with Karate! Those are two entirely different things Karate means "way of the hand" while the Taekwondo means "way of the foot". I have been doing it for about three years and now a purple belt. I'm still in training from Grandmaster.

A project that I've done I did is on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: The Creator of Modern Crime Scene Investigation. I watched a documentary and this project came up that a teacher told me to pick a person from the 1700's through 1930. I thought this would be a great opportunity to do it on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I did everything that the teacher told and gave us and what I learned from doing this was I started early. I realized that I had plenty of time in the end to make it perfect. The teacher said if I draw, I got 20 points extra credit and I already knew how to draw so I got and earned the extra credit including if I turned it in early I get to have another 20 points. I learned my lesson from that.

My fandoms . . . sooooo many. Mainly Sherlockain aka Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. There just soooooo shippable. My favorite anime is The Betrayal Knows Zess and Yuki are such a great pair together. I just started watching/reading Black Butler OMG! It's so adorable! Sebastain Michaelis OMG! SOO CUTE! HE'S THE PERFECT BUTLER ANYONE WANTED! *cough cough* Kawaii potato~ ^-^
